Play in the Woods

Nestled in the wild beauty of Maine, Play in the Woods is more than a retreat. It’s an invitation to reconnect with nature, live sustainably, and create lasting memories. The cabin is self-sufficient, powered entirely by solar energy, surrounded by 200 acres of forest. Our task was to translate this philosophy into a visual identity that feels authentic and rooted in place.

We began with immersion. To create a brand that would resonate with the region and its audience, we first learned the Maine way of life, its understated hospitality, connection to the outdoors, and community warmth. Our research phase led us to three potential directions. We knew we succeeded when all three options resonated with the client. Ultimately, we combined two of these concepts, which we titled “I’m a Nature” and “Privilege of Privacy.” This pairing shaped the brand’s narrative: the meeting point between human presence and the wilderness, between openness and sanctuary. That balance became the core metaphor behind every visual layer, from lines, textures, and colors to motion.

The visual language uses contour lines inspired by topographic maps, but seen closely, they echo wood grains or fingerprints, depending on where the viewer focuses. This multi-layered reading adds movement and a sense of exploration. We extended the identity beyond the screen into a series of merch items: mugs, linen bags, and postcards designed as small keepsakes of a slow weekend in the woods. Everything works together to create a feeling of belonging.

Website

The website translates the calm of the retreat into a digital experience.
We intentionally chose Webflow because, as a certified partner, we know it provides a fast, reliable solution without compromising design. The design team played with typography and rhythm to create a layout that feels airy yet expressive, guiding visitors intuitively through the experience.

The site doesn’t sell you products: it tells a story, leading users gently from exploration to booking.

The Result

The identity now lives across the website, the cabin, and experiences, shaping a calm and consistent world around each visitor. For Play in the Woods, design became a language of care and awareness. We’re proud to see this project grow and hope it helps more people rediscover the beauty of slowing down.
